New to interviewing?

Not sure how to get the most from your clients or colleagues?

Learn seven simple techniques to help your interviewee to settle into your conversation quickly. When they feel at ease, they’re more likely to share their memories, opinions and feelings. When they do that, you’ll capture content that draws in your viewers because they can relate to it. Human to human.

This is for you if

you’re a founder or marketer who wants to create short conversational videos that really speak to your target audiences. They could be:

  • testimonials and case studies from your clients

  • news about projects and awards from your colleagues

  • recruitment videos that showcase your values and culture

These tips will help you to produce snippets which feature your interviewees on their own. You, the interviewer, are cut out.

Health warning!

If you’re looking for specific advice on podcast interviews, where you’re in view and part of the conversation, these tips are (probably) not for you.

But if short clips are what you need, this kit will make your process more:

  • Efficient

By helping interviewees relax quickly, you can get a surprising amount of content in the space of 15 minutes. Short is sweet!

  • Effective

You come away with content that draws in viewers because your speakers are genuinely themselves. Truly human.

  • Enjoyable

Your interviewee will be uplifted by your wholehearted listening and their ‘thank you’ will make your day. Win, win.

Why I know it works

I’ve unpacked how I’ve interviewed people for the last 35 years: as a reporter, presenter and producer at the BBC for more than two decades. Then, from 2011, as an independent consultant and content creator, helping organisations to articulate their value through the voices of their leaders, teams, clients and volunteers.

I know how nerve-racking it is to interview a major client on behalf of an organisation. Or high-profile movers and shakers who only have 10 minutes to spare. There’s a lot riding on those calls and my tips will help to build your confidence, so you can make the most of them.
